Shale Shaker

This week GN shipped one set of workover rig solids control system to Australia. The configuration is as below:
1) Shaker tank with 2 units of shale shaker to clean the drilling mud


2) Mixing tank with mixing hopper, 2 units of centrifugal pump to prepare for new drilling fluids
3) Mud agitator, mud gun, pipelines, valves all equipped with both mud tanks
The difference for this solids control system between normal solids control system:
1) All the electric control system include cables, glands, electric components, and the design should be comply with Australia explosion proof standard
2) The lifting pad, walkway, handrail, the distance between adjacent components, etc should be comply with Australia safety regulations
3) The welding and painting standard is also very strict in Australia, the tank top surface is fixed with high strength glass fiber reinforced plastics.


4) The clean gate is with high position gate valve type clean gate for convenient operation and cleaning of the accumulated solids
GN design and manufacture the workover rig solid control system as per the client’s special requirement and Australia standard. This is not the first unit of solids control system shipped to Australia, we had sold over 30 units of mud recycling system for HDD industry.

Recently GN solids control shipped 8 sets of shale shaker without vibration motor shipped to our clients, the client will install the vibration motors by themselves who had installation capability. This is not the first order from this client, they repeat orders because they are satisfied with the working performance of GN shale shakers which they ordered before.


Shaker deck is the most esscential components for a shale shaker, the bottom material treatment before painting, we owns our ball blasting machine, the ball blasting degree is 2.5 with working life 10 years more, we can control the bottom treatment quality better, unlike other solids control manufacturer in China, they use sand blasting which is provided by third party supplier. 3 layers painting and coating by choosing Japan Kansai or US ppg brand painting, to promise the shaker deck not to get rusty and abrasion during the operation. In some tenders, it required the complete the shaker deck( all the vibration and non vibration components) are made of stainless steel material, it will increase the shaker production cost a lot and the the client has to pay more money.


The deck bottom of GN shaker is made of stainless steel material, and the unique rubber sealing technology to ensure the reliable performance of the rubber sealings, we also use GN own made composite material shaker screens, the working life is 2 times compared with the traditional steel frame shaker screens.

Model choice of fluid shale shaker

The shale shaker is choose by the following facts:
The handling capacity (GPM)
The type of fluid, the ratio of the mass density, the speed of flow and temperature
salt and/or acid of materials (Confirm to use 304# stainless steel or 316L stainless steel)
Size of the solids material and screening accuracy needed
The sums of meshes (API)
The placed-area size to place the shale shaker in oil field

The set-up of shale shaker

When first commission the shale shaker, keep put the shaker on a horizontal base. The base needs to be firmed.

The shock-resist rubber material should be installed between the working table and equipment.
Remove the shipping brace like bolts and lugs because the base and screen box are connected by springs, so when ship, the above part of the equipment is secured by the shipping braces.
Do not turns on the equipment before remove the shipping braces.
The cables connected the vibration motors on the shale shaker always damaged during severe vibration. Protected-cover for the cable is provide and need to install with cable when connect control panel and the motors.
When stop using the shale shaker, the shale shaker screen should always is washed by clean water.

The installation of shale shaker screens

Clean the adhesive side well and put on the shaker screens.
Install the wedge blocks at the two sides at the same time.
Do the test-run after the installation of shaker screen to ensure installation is done properly. If there is any unusual noise of poor contact, stop immediately and recheck the installation of shaker screens.
The tilt-angle adjustment of screen box

When the volume of fluid running is too large, the mesh screen should be changed. When fluid running is small, the angle should be adjusted by tilting.
The angle of the screen should be tilted according to the actual demand. The adjustment range is -1 to +5 degree. When adjust the tilt-angles, take off the pin first, loosen rings screws, then run the manual and/or electric hydraulic pump.
When the shale shaker properly works, the fluid should flows 3/4 of the whole screen, if the fluid can not flows as much as required, in order to increase the effect of cleaning, the shaker screen should be changed.
