This week GN solids control shipped 2 units of Large Bowl 30 inch GNLW764A Decanter Centrifuge for Mining Industry to Australia, this is the largest centrifuge model we have made right now, we have 9 inch, 14 inch, 18 inch, 22 inch and 30 inch bowl decanter centrifuge with different treating capacity, different speed, different G force for various applications.


The diameter of the centrifuge bowl is 760mm, the bowl length is 3328mm, the treating capacity is 528gpm, max bowl speed is 2650rpm, typical bowl speed is 2200rpm, max G force up to 3000G, typical G force is 2060G. The main power is 160KW, back drive motor is 90KW, the gearbox Torch is 25000.N.M.


Same with the smaller decanter centrifuge, the screw propeller protection is tungsten carbide tiles, the bowl fluids distribution port and solids discharge port is protected tungsten alloy for longer working life, the bowl material is made of duplex stainless steel 2304 for anti corrosion.


The bearing for this big bowl centrifuge is very big, need separate lubrication system for better lubrication to extend the working life of the bearings. The plate type heating exchanging system can effectively cool down the lubrication oil so that to get a better cooling performance and the temperature sensor installed on the bearing seat will send signal to the PLC to trip off the centrifuge in case of over high temperature.

GN solids control shipped several units of drilling waste cuttings screw conveyor to Africa Client, this is repeat orders for the same clients for many years. The screw conveyor is widely used for transferring and collecting the drilling waste cuttings from solids control system.


The installation of screw conveyor:
The screw conveyor might be installed on different place for different functions, for example, it can be installed along with the solids control system mud tank besides the shale shaker, mud cleaner, decanter centrifuge to collect the discharged drilling cuttings; it can be installed slantly under the horizontal installed screw conveyor to transfer the drilling cuttings to vertical cuttings dryer; it could be installed under the vertical cuttings dryer solids discharge port to transfer the discharged solids cake outside automatically, it can be installed under the decanter centrifuge solids discharge port to transfer out the solids automatically. It can be used in cuttings solidification unit to transfer the 3 materials and mix them together.


The screw conveyor can transfer the material with less fluids content in the cuttings, otherwise it will flow back and spill out. When the fluids content is very high, we need to use vacuum pump, slurry pump or hose pump to transfer to the drilling waste management system.

GN VFD decanter centrifuge is also very suitable for extremely high and extremely low temperature area, like Russia, and above mentioned countries. When the environmental temperature is below 40 degree, the VFD self cooling tube installed inside the VFD control panel is enough. When the temperature is lower than 55 degree, we need to use an air conditioner for cooling, so that the VFD control panel can be operated 24 hours per day continuously without over heating to break. If use normal explosion proof VFD control panel, it will break very easy in hot weather.
The positive pressurized VFD control panel with stainless steel material cover, equipped with ABB brand inverter for main motor, back drive motor, pump motor, PLC smart control, HMI interface, the operator only need to connect the cable gland with the VFD control panel.

In the oil and gas drilling application, there is one important equipment in the solid control system, that is vacuum degasser. It is usually used after the shale shaker and before the mud cleaner. The main application of the degasser is to eliminate the gas immersed in the drilling mud, which will help restoring the mud weight, stabilizing the slurry viscosity, reducing the drilling cost, and preventing the well blow out accident. The vacuum degasser is mainly composed of vacuum tank installed on a skid base, vacuum pump, gas water separator, control panel, explosive proof motor. Its working principle is that: under the effect of the suction power from vacuum pump, negative pressure zone will be generated in the vacuum tank, and the drilling mud will enter the hollow shaft of the rotor through the suction tube under the effect of the atmospheric pressure. Then the mud will hit the windows of the hollow shaft and be sprayed to the wall of vacuum tank. Under the collision effect of the separation baffle, the mud will be separated into thin layers, and bubbles immersed in the mud will be broken up and comes out. The gas will be discharged by the vacuum pump and gas water separator to the safe zone, the mud will be discharged outside of the tank by impeller. In the whole process, the rotor will keep running at high speed under the power of main motor.

Explanation of Noun

Separation Factor: Ratio between centrifugal force and gravity of the suspension liquid or emulsion in centrifugal force field, namely ratio between centrifugal acceleration and gravity acceleration.

Separation Force design formulas:

Example:When the rotation speed of GNLW363C is 3130 RPM, the separation factor is 1973. While when the rotation speed of GNLW453C is 2800 RPM, the separation speed is 1973. We can see, when same separation factor, the larger the bowl diameter, the lower the rotation speed.

Differential speed is the speed difference between centrifuge bowl and the screw conveyor.

To get best separate result,control bowl speed based on feed different material will be very important

Effect of adjustment on technical parameters

In actual work, the solid content, solid particle size, viscosity of the slurry would be changed. Operators would choose the suitable centrifuge parameters according to the request on treated liquid and solids, capacity and so on.

Control of separation factor

Generally speaking, the larger the solids particle is in liquid and the larger the density, then the lower of the separation factor. Conversely, higher separation factor is required.

Adjustment of liquid pool

When the feeding rate is fixed, the deeper the liquid pool is, the solids will stay longer in the liquid pool. Then more solids would be separated out. On the other hand, the deeper the liquid pool is, the less fine and perturbed solids would ran away with liquid.

In the other way, a deeper liquid pool will make more clean liquid. However, the deeper liquid pool will reduce the drying area of the centrifuge, thus the solids would be with more moisture. Operator should weigh the liquid cleanness and solids dryness when adjusting the depth of liquid pool. Unless the dewatered solids will be incinerated for further disposal, in normal condition, very dry solid is not necessary. While the much cleaner liquid is desired, so, operation should adjust the liquid depth as deep as possible.
