Drilling Fluids Shale Shaker and Mud tank for Offshore Drilling

Recently one batch of drilling fluids shale shaker and mud tank are shipped for offshore drilling companies. This is repeat order from our client.


The shale shaker used for offshore drilling companies are with ATEX explosion proof (or comply with marine used motor and control panel) vibration motor and control panel. The coating and painting is PPG Protective & Marine Coatings, 3 layers, 1st layer is Zinc rich Heavy Duty epoxy primer, 2nd layer is Epoxy micaceous iron oxide intermediate, 3rd layer is polyurethane topcoat finishing. The shaker screen used is composite material frame pre-tensioned shaker screens for longer working life. The shaker deck angle can be adjusted by ratchet wrench from -1° to +5°. The screw lifting device can be adjusted at the same time from both sides.


The mud tanks for offshore drilling consists of skid mounted centrifugal pump with lifting frame, mud tank with mixing hopper, pipelines, lightings, guardrails, walkway, stair, etc. The shale shaker will be installed on top of mud tank. All the mud tank and other modular is installed with lifting pad or lifting frame for convenient movement.


Except for shale shaker and mud tank, GN solids control also produce mud cleaner, desander, desilter, vacuum degasser, centrifugal pump, mud agitator, mud gun, mixing hopper, shaker screen, decanter centrifuge, mud gas separator, vertical cuttings dryer, screw conveyor, etc, which can be used for both onshore and offshore drilling with different standard.
Mud cleaner is a combination of desander cone, desilter cone and bottom shaker, the desander cone and desilter cone are all made of 100% polyurethane material for better wear resistant, by using different qty hydrocyclones, we can provide different treating capacity mud cleaner. TBM Slurry Separation Plant for pipe jacking engineering

TBM Pipe Jacking engineering are widely used in urban construction, normally it will face a problem of working area limit, working noise limit and environmental protection limit. GN TBM Slurry Separation Plant is designed to meet all of the requirements mentioned, the features of GN TBM slurry separation plant including compact design, high treating efficiency, better treatment result, different treating capacity, easy movement, convenient disassembly for different requirement.
Except for small desander unit of TBM slurry separation plant–GNMS-500D & GNMS-1000D, we also have below models of middle TBM slurry separation plant and large TBM slurry separation plant:


Take GNTBM-240 (240m3/h) for example, it consists of 1 unit of desander mud cleaner with double deck bottom shaker and 2 ea desander cone, 1 unit of desilter mud cleaner with double deck bottom shaker and 12ea desilter cone, 2 units of desander desilter feeding pump, mud tank with lifting frame for convenient transportation. During transportation, the top layer desilter mud cleaner will be disassembly to meet the road transportation height limit. The whole system without disassembly can be shipped by bulk cargo vessel. The complete system are controlled together, it is installed on the position where is convenient for operation. Both of the desander cleaner and desilter cleaner discharge the separated solids from one end of the TBM slurry separation plant. The total screen area is 5.33m2.
The working process is as below:
The TBM slurry is fed to desander cleaner and desilter cleaner scalping screen to separate coarse solids, the slurry dropped into the fluids catching tank, the desander feeding pump transfer the slurry to desander cone to separate sand/silt, the solids dropped on the fine shaker screen to make it drier. The fluids flow to catching tank and the desilter feeding pump transfer the fluids to desilter cone, the solids on the top fine screen to dewater the solids.

Water based mud dewatering unit

The used water based mud normally will use chemical enhanced centrifugation to enhance the treat and disposal. The additives will be mixed with the used mud, so the solids accumulated as bigger size and be easily treated by decanter centrifuge.


A dewatering unit normally including: a mixing tank with mud agitator, the chemical dosing system installed on the mixing tank skid, the decanter centrifuge installed on top of mixing tank, the decanter centrifuge feed pump installed on the mixing tank skid. If required, we can install the dewatering centrifuge unit inside a standard container for water proof and sun proof. The flocculants and coagulates will be added to enhance the remove of fine solids in the used mud.
The decanter centrifuge should be drived by VFD control panel, for example, GNLW363D-VFD decanter centrifuge, the max speed is 3900rpm, the normal operated speed is 3200rpm, according to the mud density and solids size, the user can adjust the frequency to adjust the G force to separate different solids. The VFD control panel is positive pressurized VFD control panel, the main motor, back drive motor and pump motor are from world famous brand drive, to adjust the frequency from touch screen.
The chemical dosing unit including chemical mixing tank with agitator, screw conveyor to transfer the chemical powder to chemical mixing tank, 2 chemical dosing pump( one in use and one as back up), hopper, pipelines, valves, control panel, etc.
The advantages of WBM dewatering unit:

  1. Continuous working, if required, it can work continuously 24 hours, when decanter centrifuge is stopped, do flushing and maintenance regularly.
  2. Reduce environmental impact, the treated water can be disposal and reused to prepare for new drilling fluids.
  3. The discharged solids are dry enough to be collected by trucks.

Drill Solids Control Equipments

The drill solids are the main contaminant of drilling fluids, solids control equipments are the most important to reduce drilling fluids cost, reduce water consumption, extend pumps working life, reduce drilling waste for environmental protection, reduce disposal cost, etc. A poor solids control system will increase the drilling cuttings volume, increase the waste disposal cost, reduce drilling efficiency, reduce centrifugal pump working life.


The drill solids found in the drilling fluids range in size from 1 to 1000 microns, solids size diameter 73~2000 microns can be separated by shale shaker by using different mesh shaker screens, solids size diameter 45 ~75 microns, screen mesh required to remove is 325mesh, we can use 10 inch or 12 inch desander cone to separate the fine sand. The solids size diameter 6~44 microns, screen mesh required to remove is 400 mesh, we can use 4 inch desilter cone to separate the 6 ~44 microns solids, the mud cleaner with desander cone, desilter cone and bottom shaker is installed after shale shaker. The solids control equipments separation is mechanical removal, the first phase separation is shale shaker, the second phase separation is desander cone , the third phase separation is desilter cone, the fourth phase separation is decanter centrifuge, separation cut point is 2~5 microns.

GNMS-1500D Pipe Jacking Slurry Separation Desander Plant for Asia Client

GN solids control produced slurry separation desander plant can be used for pipe jacking, TBM, bored piling, HDD and other slurry separation project. We have standard model desander unit GNMS-200D with 200gpm treating capacity, GNMS-500D with 500gpm treating capacity , GNMS-1000D with 1000gpm treating capacity. We can also produce customized capacity desander plant for our client, recently one unit of GNMS-1500D desander plant are ready for shipment to Asia client, the technical configuration is as below:


Double deck shale shaker equipped 2 ea of 14 inch desander cone, which is inside polyurethane material covered steel outside, the polyurethane material is wear resistant material, the outside steel cover is to prevent the desander cone from deformed. The total treating capacity is 1500gpm. The bottom screen is to separate the coarse solids from slurry, the treated mud dropped into the catching tank, the 75KW centrifugal pump transfer the mud to 14 inch desander cone, the fluids flow out through the outlet pipeline to storage tank, the solids discharged from desander cone nozzle and dropped on the top layer screen to recycle more useful fluids. The whole system is designed as compact unit for convenient operation and transportation. The separation cut point is 45 microns. If user need to separate fine solids, the client can use a separate desilter or mud cleaner to separate solids size 15~45 microns, if the fluids discharged from desilter need to be treated, dewatering centrifuge should be applied further. The dewatering centrifuge with chemical dosing unit can treat the particle size 1~ 5 microns to get clean water for disposal.
