The basic treating process generally including:
Oil sludge picking up, normally we use sludge vacuum pump to pick up the oil sludge from waste pit to pre-mixing tank, we have nominal flow rate 10m3/h, 20m3/h and 40m3/h vacuum pump for option.
Heating and pre-mixing tank, depends on the treating capacity and oily sludge conditions, we can use 1 set or 2 sets of pre-mixing tank, 1 tank as heating, chemical jetting and pre-mixing tank, the submersible slurry pump will transfer the prepared oil sludge from 1# pre-mixing tank to #2 pre-mixing tank, which is also with heating lines to improve the oil sludge separation efficiency. With 2 units of premixing tank, the user do not need to wait until the chemical is properly mixed with oil sludge.
Coarse screening and heating tank, the prepared oil sludge, the double deck shale shaker will separate the coarse solids from the oil sludge
Chemical dosing and dewatering , the chemical dosing unit is installed inside 20ft container for convenient operation and maintenance. The oil sludge with fine solids will be mixed with proper chemicals will be sent to decanter centrifuge for solids liquid separation.
Solids liquid separation and heating tank, the decanter centrifuge can separate the solids from liquid with the chemical mixed oil sludge.
3 phase separation, oil ,water and little solids separation, the 3 phase disc stack separator will separate the oil and water and few solids, the oil can be recovered and water can be used in the circulation system.
Recently one set of GNLW554ET-VFD decanter centrifuge with 3 phase separation centrifuge, and 2 sets of screw pump, all installed on one skid for convenient shipment. The treating capacity is 15 m3/h. The detailed technical configuration is as below:

GN solids control can design and produce customized oil sludge treatment unit with different treating capacity, such as 1m3/h, 2m3/h, 5m3/h, 15m3/h. According to the material information provided by the client, we can decide if all the modular should be utilized or not. Basically a general oil sludge treatment unit including oil sludge picking pump ( vacuum pump ) , pre-mixing tank modular, coarse shaker tank modular, dewatering unit modular, 3 phase separation modular, etc. the customer bought 3 phase separation unit modular, they will use the filter before feeding to the decanter centrifuge, otherwise they should ensure the max solids content should be less than 30% and max solids content is smaller than 1 microns. The less solids content, the better separation efficiency. The decanter centrifuge should separate the solids as much as possible, the fluids enter into the disc centrifuge should be with solids content less than 3% and max solids size no bigger than 5 microns, to avoid any damage of the vertical centrifuge. Depends on the oil sludge conditions, the user can use proper chemicals, they can select to buy dewatering unit from GN or user their own chemical dosing unit by adding chemicals into the oil sludge, to increase the treating efficiency.
1 unit of GNSD-90 disc stack separator and 1 unit of GNLW-454ET decanter centrifuge are shipped to our domestic client. These equipments are for separation of oil ,water and solids. The working process is as below:
The decanter centrifuge feed pump transfer the oil sludge to decanter centrifuge feed tube, in the meanwhile, the dewatering unit mixed the proper chemicals, the chemical dosing pump transfer the chemicals to static mixer and then to decanter centrifuge feed tube, the mixing oil sludge and chemicals are mixed well, so it will be easily to be separated out by decanter centrifuge, the solids size bigger than 2 microns will be separated out, the oil and water mixture fluids will flow to buffer tank, then feed to disc stack separator, to separate oil, water and little solids. The mixture fluids feed to disc centrifuge must be with solids content less than 3%, otherwise it will block the disc stack separator easily. The technical specification is as below: GNLW-454ET decanter centrifuge with bowl diameter 18 inch(450mm) , bowl length 74.5 inch (1890mm), max speed is 3500rpm, max G force is 3084G, bowl L/R ratio is 4.2, the main motor and back drive motor will be suggested by our engineer according to client’s material. The handling capacity will be also depend on the chemical to be used and treated material.
GNSD-90 disc stack separator for oil, water, solids separation: Bowl diameter is 580mm, slide piston is 500mm, the max speed is 6150rpm, max G force is 12273G, motor power is 18.5KW, the starting time is 10 to 15 minutes, the major components of the disc stack separator is the bowl, the process effect is obtained by the rotating drum with high speed. Except for decanter centrifuge and disc stack separator, to treat oil sludge, the user also need other accessories, pls contact with GN solids control for more information.
Recently GN solids control shipped one set of oil and water separation package for China Oilfield Service company. The technical configuration is as below:
1) 2 phase decanter centrifuge to separate fine solids from fluids 2) Screw pump to feed the crude oil / oil sludge to decanter centrifuge 3) 3 phase centrifuge ( disc centrifuge) to separator oil from water, by adding proper chemicals, the recovered oil can be with BS & W below 3%, which can be accepted by most users. 4) Diaphragm pump to feed the clean fluids discharged from decanter centrifuge to disc centrifuge 5) Buffer storage tank for oil and water with oil pump and water pump, 2 liquid level meters are installed on each tank, when the oil or water level reached the setting level, the oil pump and water pump will pump the oil and water to the big storage tank 6) Package skid, all the above mentioned items sit on one skid for convenient transportation and operation
This is one modular of the oil sludge separation system, the complete oil sludge treatment system including waste pick up pump ( normally we used vacuum pump), Pre-mixing tank modular, screen modular to separate coarse solids, chemical dosing system, and the last modular is 3 phase separation package. The pre-mixing tank is the most important part, when the solids content is higher than 30%, the waste oil sludge should be diluted by proper fluids and low the solids content below 30%, if necessary, the demulsifier should be added by this process for easier separation for the next phase separation. The mud agitator is agitating the oil sludge with chemical mixing evenly and the submersible slurry pump will transfer the fluids to screen modular to separate the coarse solids. Last week, GN finished production of 2 m3/h oil sludge separation system for USA client, this week, we finished production for 15 m3/h oil sludge treatment system for Europe client, this is the repeat order for this client, they bought one unit of 1 m3/h compact design oil sludge separation system for the same project. They are satisfied with the separation result, so repeat order for a bigger treating capacity system.
The configuration of the containerized 15m3/h oil sludge separation system:
1) Premixing tank: The sludge vacuum pump transfer the oil sludge from the waste pit to the pre- mixing tank, which is equipped with heating line inside the tank around, and the mud agitator installed on the tank to agitate the oil sludge to prevent the solids from accumulation in the tank bottom. The system will be used in cold weather area, we put them in the container to keep the equipments warm.
2) Shale shaker tank, to separate coarse solids from the oil sludge, this is to protect the decanter centrifuge, coarse solids will wear the centrifuge screw very quickly, GN decanter centrifuge screw is made of stainless steel 304 by heating, the flights are protected by tungsten carbide tiles, it is fixed by special glue and bolts.
